Overview Tab

Hawaii’s lush greenery is courtesy of a healthy rainfall. Though the sun shines brightly all year round, rain occurs at least somewhere on the island almost every day. Hawaii experiences year round highs of 28 degrees and from May to September the island enjoys summer with beautiful warm and dry weather. Winter occurs from October through to April with rainfall and surf conditions increasing during this time. Peak season usually occurs during winter with tourists spending their Christmas and Easter breaks in Hawaii. Avoid the crowds and wet weather by holding off until May through to September.

Though the islands experience different seasons, Hawaii’s diverse terrain means much of the state is split into cool and warm regions. The south west coasts on the islands are typically sunny and home to the best beaches. The rugged north eastern ends are a lot wetter and offer lush forests and cherished surf spots.

Surf carnivals and festivals are a dime a dozen in Hawaii. Some of the best celebrations include Kona’s annual coffee festival in November, the Billabong Pro Maui in December and April’s Merrie Monarch Festival which celebrates the art and skill of Hula.

    Sights to See

Experience Hawaii’s rainforests from a different perspective. The islands have a range of Zip Line tours that provide a bird’s eye view of the lush terrain. Little and big kids will love swiftly gliding on a giant flying fox through tree canopies, over waterfalls and down mountain valleys.

When in Hawaii learn to surf from one of the locals. You’ll find numerous friendly surf schools on the islands, from the North Shore Surf Girls in Haleiwa to the Hawaiian Fire Surf School in Honolulu.

If it’s clear weather, watching the sun set from the Mauna Key Summit will be the highlight of your trip. Standing 3976 feet high, Mauna Key Summit is one of the tallest mountains and offers once in a life time views. It is possible to hire a 4x4 vehicle to venture up, but it’s recommend to go with a tour as the roads can get a little scary to manoeuvre. The Waikiki Aquarium maybe smaller than other aquariums on the island, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in unique exhibits including monk seals, sea dragons and an awe-inspiring tank filled with moon jellyfish.

Tours are also plentiful in Hawaii, from sight-seeing tours to hiking trips, whale-watching cruises, snorkelling excursions and helicopter tours the islands have something to offer every traveller.

    Don't leave home without...

...your smile. Hawaiians are generally shy, but very friendly people.

    Local Customs

Don't be offended if people don't look you in the eye. Many Hawaiians have been taught to avoid eye contact. This is not unfriendliness; it's tradition.

    Things to be careful of…

    Smoking

Smoking is illegal inside bars, restaurants and other public places. Regardless of the law, most locals would appreciate visitors refraining from lighting up in restricted areas.
