Overview Tab

Founded in 1836 and named in honour of Queen Adelaide the consort of the reigning monarch King William IV, Adelaide was created to attract free immigrants by espousing notions of civil liberty and freedom from religious persecution. Today the city welcomes all keen to explore its historic legacy and enjoy the numerous cultural and sporting events offered through the year.

Adelaide’s weather enables exploration of the city year around. Summers can be very dry with very little rainfall. In January temperatures rise to an average of 29 degrees. While in winter the mercury peaks at around eight degrees.

The city is known for its numerous festivals including the Adelaide Festival of Arts, Adelaide Fringe Festival and the Adelaide Film Festival. Other festivals include the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, WOMADelaide and the Adelaide Festival of Ideas. In March, Adelaide hosts the Clipsal 500, a round of the V8 Supercar championship series and as such is Australia’s largest domestic motor sport event.

    Don’t Leave Without…
